An overwhelming majority of UK residential property is in hard water areas with high lime content. Those properties that have installed water softeners do not have hard water, eliminating the need to use acid based limescale removers.
If there are no water softeners installed, the best process is to contact your local plumber to remove your water & chrome fittings from showers and vanity tops. These fittings are then placed into a container with limescale removing chemicals until the limescale has dissolved.
