Flood Damage

Silex UK are experts in supporting clients through the process following a flood or substantial leak of water.

Important First Steps

Firstly, contact your insurance company.

Take as many photographs as you can of the flood and any progress of the stone area as it dries out.

Although drying times vary, it can take up to 3-4 months for a floor to fully dry out naturally.

Too many insurance companies and property owners believe the floor is destroyed and remove it before the stone, and substrates, have fully dried out. This can be hugely costly for the insurance company and of great inconvenience to you, the property owner.

Process Following a Flood

We recommend that property owners make sure they allow the correct period of time for the floor to fully dry out and keep a record using photographs and video. During this time, contact a leak detection agency if you are unsure of where the water is coming from.

They can quickly identify where the problem is, isolate it, and in some cases repair. In other instances, like a full flood, you will need a company who uses moisture meter readers to continually assess the stone and provide reports until the stone has fully dried out.

Once the stone is dry, Silex UK will use control tests to determine whether it can be restored to its original state. These tests show how the stone will look when restored.

In the event of a flood, contact Silex UK to assess the impact on your stone.
